Subject: William E Brown
To Dick Husta
My name is Dwight Pruitt, and I
am looking for information on William Brown, Great Neck HS class of 1940. Brown
was killed in action in France on January 17, 1945. His family lived at 10
Church St. in the late 40’s. Brown was survived by; his parents, (Thomas and
Mabel) a sister Helen, and two brothers (Thomas G. and William E Brown). Before
entering the military, he was assistant manager of the Playhouse theatre in
Great Neck.
.
In the fall of 1944 a German accented refugee named Herman Kaiser was
in my homeroom. He was about 6’ tall and 180 pounds. I can still visualize him.
In the spring term he was missing. He had turned 19 and was drafted, was sent
to Europe, and was killed. The GNHS Alumni office has no record of him. He was
the only man killed from our class. Can anyone help verify and possibly expand
on my information? So we can honor him along with the other GNHS men who died
in WWII?
Editors note: if you have information that might help, you may send your information
to me, at theolddrone@juno.com
or to the interested party mentioned in the request for information.

PRESIDENT SIGNS EXTENSION TO INTERNET TAX BAN
The Internet is safe from new taxes, for now. But, the battle between
states that would like to impose new taxes on the Internet, and retailers who
don’t want that to happen, has started. It began on Nov. 28, 2001 the Day
President Bush signed a two-year tax moratorium on the Internet. Renewing the
Internet-free tax ban enacted three years ago that expired October 21,
2001.
